3 places I like in Bucharest:

1. the small yard of the arts faculty. perfect place to read a newspaper, smoke a cigarette and discover abandoned arty stuff

2. the main train station. something is always going on there

3. the Matache marketplace. you’ll find anything there -sugar, spice and everything nice- in a somewhat filthy but real setting

3 places/moments I hate in Bucharest:

1. the “casa poporului” area. too damn big, hence scary
2. the “bucur obor” general store. huge, hectic, confusing

3. early mornings or late at night in the subway. the zombie look of “co-riders” is so creepy

3 venues in Bucharest where I like going out with friends:

1. the “argentin” terrace. beer, big humming crowd

2. “underworld” club in the afternoon. love the smell of that basement when it’s empty

3. the joint inside the literature museum (and the terrace in summer) and it’s resident clients

3 things a Westerner would not understand about Bucharest:

1. you can’t just knock on your neighbour’s door, ask him/her/them to turn the “manele” down and expect some result

2. why they had to mention that “adevarata formatie albatros” (the true albatros band) is performing the song “bucuresti, bucuresti” (bucharest, bucharest)

3. trying to understand this city does not increase the chances of liking it. patience does, though
